Selling in the Rain - Inclement Weather Solutions for Outdoor Retail Markets
Rain and strong winds can be a retail vendor’s worst nightmare when it comes to outdoor markets. Not only do you have to worry about keeping your product safe and dry, but you also have to make sure your tent won’t fly away!
We understand the challenges that come with selling in less-than-ideal weather conditions. We’re sharing our best tips and tricks for selling in the wind and rain.
Rain Gear
Plastic Drop Cloths
Esther & Elsa events are held rain or shine, so keeping your product safe from water damage is a top priority on days with the chance of showers. An affordable and simple solution is Husky Plastic Drop Cloths. Easy to use and remove, these reusable rain guards should be in every vendor’s toolkit!
Wind Gear
Adhesive Dots
Even a small gust of wind can send your displays and products flying. That’s why we often use these adhesive dots to make sure everything we bring to our markets stays in place.
Tent Weights
While Esther & Elsa requires 20 lbs of weight to be placed on all 4 tent legs, certain events like Camden Commons and parts of Front Porch Sundays can experience a bit more wind due to the taller buildings in the South End.
ABCCanopy’s 40lb canopy weights are easy to attach to tent legs and could easily pair with other smaller sandbag weights for days when you need a bit more assurance. Likewise, many of our vendors prefer ABCCanopy’s 60lb water weights as an easy option to fill, empty, and load in and out of event spaces.
KAROKA Zip Ties
This recommendation is inspired by Millhaus Sewing’s solution to securing their display during a windy Front Porch Sunday. These industrial zip ties can withstand up to 250 lbs of pressure, guaranteeing your hard work won’t be jostled around by surprise bursts of wind.
